ASTM A694 is the standard specification to cover carbon and alloy steel forgings for pipe flanges, fitting, valves and other parts for high-pressure transmission service. The steel conforms to standard chemical composition requirements which have been chemically analysed and adheres to full casting and tensile property requirements.

There are several grades of material based on the minimum yield requirements: for example. A694 F60 indicates a minimum yield strength of 60ksi.
